Front Door Planters Ideas

Recently I was searching for some front door planters that I could use to grow some flowers and beautify my front door. The idea was to get some planters that were not only gorgeous but could also be practical and serve the purpose effectively. When choosing front door planters, I wanted to avoid making costly mistakes that could result in dry soil, waterlogged soil or broken pots.

Let’s look at some of the factors that you should consider when choosing front door planters from the wide selection of planters available in the market.

Drainage for Front Door Planters

Having adequate drainage holes in your planter is crucial. Many plants cannot do well when they are sitting in water. To thrive the plants, require well-draining soil in a planter that has drainage holes that get rid of excess water.

The negative effects of excess water are worse in some plants such as succulents. Root rot is common in plants that have been sitting in water or drowning.

The Planter’s Porosity

Porosity is also one of the factors you have to consider when selecting front door planters. Porous planters allow air and moisture to move in and out of them.

Some of the porous containers available in the market are made from materials such as timber, paper pulp, unglazed terracotta, and clay.

One of the benefits of porous planters is that they allow moisture to evaporate which cools the soil which is ideal in hot temperatures. The ability to allow excess water to evaporate means that the plants are less likely to suffer from root rot.  The porous planters also promote healthy root growth by allowing air to circulate around the roots.

One of the disadvantages of the porous planters is that they allow the soil to dry out too quickly especially when the planters are located under full sun. The plants require regular watering which if not provided will cause the plants to experience stress and death eventually.
