How To Clean A Stovetop

I love cooking with gas, however, it is way more difficult to keep a gas stovetop clean.

I recommend a few daily and weekly cleaning tasks and then really give it a deep clean once a month.

For quick everyday cleaning, I recommend spraying down your gas stovetop with a little bit of degreaser and a microfiber cloth. The degreaser will help break down any greasy food spills like oils. Plus, the baking soda will add a little bit of grit to help break down any baked-on foods.

Just spray the gas stovetop with the degrease, give it a minute to sit, and then wipe it up.

It won’t look perfect, but cleaning it daily like this will help get rid of any large food particles.

Once a week I recommend removing the grates and the tray (or drip bowls) under the grates. You can either let them soak in a sink full of hot soapy water and scrub them down or some can go in the dishwasher.

I just run mine through the dishwasher with the dishes every Tuesday when I deep clean the kitchen.

Occasionally some tough cooked food will get stuck and you will need to scrub a little bit after the tray or drip bowls come out of the dishwasher.

I just use a microfiber cloth a little bit of bar keepers friend to scrub it off.

How To Clean Gas Stove Burners

About once a month you will want to clean under the drip trays and the gas stove burners.

For the most part, I recommend following the directions in your stovetop manual on how to clean the stovetop burners.

Our stove was in the home when we bought it and is now 25+ years old. Since our home was a repo we didn’t get any manuals or instructions.

I like to remove the gas burners and use a paper clip to clean out any of the clogged burners. Just unbend the paper clip and gently poke it through the burner clog.

Next, I use an old toothbrush to scrub away any cooked food from the burners.

Finally, I wipe down the burners with a damp microfiber cloth and then reattach the burners.

With these simple tips, you can keep your glass or gas stovetop clean and looking great! It only takes a few minutes a day and some time once or twice a month to keep your stovetop clean and working great.
