How to clean headlights with vinegar

You might find it surprising but yes you can use vinegar to clean and defog your headlights. I am going to show you how to make the best car headlight cleaner with vinegar.

The things you need:

  • Vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Water
  • Microfiber cloth

Get a spray bottle filled halfway up with water and add 1-2 cups of white vinegar into it. Shake then spray to clean the headlights. you want to be careful when spraying because you don’t want any liquid to go under the headlights. After spraying the headlights use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe them.

This is one of the best ways you can clean your headlights with vinegar. It is also the fastest way.

How often should you clean your headlights with vinegar?

The simple answer to this question is to do it only once every month or every two months. I am only saying this because I’m just a skeptical person. There haven’t really been any cons of using vinegar to clean your headlights unless you are using too much and the liquid gets under the headlights and damages them. So you can either do it monthly or when you feel like doing it.

But if you still have a foggy headlight, don’t worry I have some other tips for you.

Next, I will show you another way you can clean your headlights. Also if you want to know more vinegar uses you can check out this article.

How to clean headlights with toothpaste

You might find it a bit weird that toothpaste can be used to clean car headlights. Well, it can and it’s actually good at doing so. I will now show you how to clean your headlights with toothpaste but first, you’ll need the following:

Things you need

  • Small bucket of soapy water
  • Cleaning rag
  • Regular white Toothpaste

The first thing you want to do is to dip the rag into the soapy water and use it to wash the headlights. Be sure not to get any liquid under the headlights. After washing the headlights with the rag, rinse the headlights with clean water (use another soft rag to help rinse the headlights). After rinsing the headlights allow them to dry. After allowing them to dry it is now time to use the toothpaste. Get another soft cloth and squeeze 1 drop of toothpaste onto it, then use it to gently rub the car headlights. If the cloth is too dry you can add just a small amount of water to it. Keep cleaning the headlights for around 3-5 mins. Now it’s time to rinse the headlights and allow them to dry.

I would also recommend that you use a car headlight wax like this one “turtle wax” to protect your headlights from future damage.

Final thoughts

Surprisingly toothpaste is actually pretty good at cleaning headlights. Even though I still prefer to use a regular car headlight cleaning kit toothpaste isn’t a bad option especially if you want to save some extra cash.

How to clean headlights with baking soda

You probably didn’t expect to see baking soda in this article but baking soda is really good at cleaning stuff around your home. I will now show you how to clean your headlights with baking soda.

The first thing you want to do is clean your headlights with a damp cloth. After doing this, just get a bowl and put about 6 tablespoons of baking soda into it and also add warm water to it as well. This will create a paste-like substance. Apply the baking soda paste to your car headlights with a sponge. Then use a clean cloth to polish the headlights. Now it’s time to wash your headlights with dish soap and warm water. After doing this your headlights will be looking brand new.

Now how well does baking soda clean your headlights? Well, it does a really decent job at cleaning them. Sure it might not be as effective as using a regular headlight cleaning kit but it gets the job done.
