Ingredients Needed:
- Vinegar
- or Citric Acid
- Paper towels
Vinegar is the cheapest way to do it, but if you hate the smell of vinegar citric acid works great too!
Note: It doesn’t take a lot of your time to clean the shower doors with vinegar, but they do need to soak. I recommend doing this on a day when you will be at home for most of the day.
Getting Started
You will want to start with a couple of paper towels (or microfiber cloths) and a spray bottle full of plain vinegar.
Hold the paper towels up to the shower door and carefully spray them with vinegar. The paper towel will absorb the vinegar and stick to the shower door.
Make sure you completely coat the paper towel with plenty of vinegar. The paper towel will keep the vinegar against the spots on your shower door so they don’t run down and off the door.

Letting The Paper Towels Soak on The Door
Let the paper towels sit on the shower door for at least 30 minutes. You can pull back the paper towels to check and see if the stains are gone.
If they are just pull off the paper towels and wipe down the door. If they aren’t just put the paper towel back on the spot.
You may need to let the paper towel sit for as long as 2 hours.
Move the Paper towel
It was amazing how the spots just completely disappeared and the door was clean without any scrubbing! You can see below the clean spot on the door where I pulled off the paper towel.
If you are in a hurry to get the door cleaned you can coat the whole door with paper towels. I
didn’t want to waste many paper towels so I just used the same 2-3 squares and moved them on the shower as I got an area cleaned.
You can see below in the before and after all of the hard water stains are gone and the shower door shines! I have the older frosted glass on my door but this would work even better on the new clear glass shower doors!
No longer do you need a bunch of chemicals or scrubbing to clean your shower door.
Just a little bit of vinegar, paper towels, and some patience will get your doors shiny again!
Keeping Them From Getting Grimy Again
If you have hard water chances are the hard water will come back on your shower door after a few months.
To prevent it from building up there are a few things you can do.
My preferred method is to use this DIY daily shower spray to keep the hard water build-up from happening.
You can also use a shower squeegee. With either the daily shower spray or the shower squeegee I recommend using after the last shower of the day.
It will help prevent the build-up of hard water and limescale on your shower door.
